SEND - Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information

At Old Cleeve C of E First School, we strive to meet the needs of every individual child within our setting. We believe that ensuring that our school environment is enabling, accessible, inclusive and welcoming is the first step in guiding all children through their learning journey. Appreciating and understanding the strengths of all of our children is essential. We are then better placed to engage those that require additional support. That may be through high quality universal provision, in-class learning, small group intervention, 1:1 or specialist support from outside agencies.

Within our rich and varied curriculum, we appreciate that every child is unique and special in their own way. Each child is provided with safe, stimulating, broad and balanced curriculum that aims to break down barriers to learning in a playful and curious way. Understanding our children, their backgrounds and life experiences helps us to support them more effectively. As a school we have started our journey in becoming Trauma Informed (Trauma Informed Schools UK). We are passionate about improving the quality of learning and the mental health of our children and the vast majority of our staff are under going this training as we speak. Enabling our children to progress socially, emotionally, mentally and academically is our focus.

We are committed to working alongside parents/carers and families in ensuring that your child/ren are able to achieve to the best of their abilities. We don't believe in their being a ceiling for any child.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCO) is Mrs Charlotte Taylor, who is a qualified teacher and works across three schools within the Trust. Appointments can be made to speak to or see her via the school office by telephoning 01984 640232 or alternatively contacting her via email at ocf.send@wsat.org.uk
