How to support your child at home
In order to help your child reach their full potential please support them with these key areas at home:
Reading: Children should read every night for 15 minutes. This reading should be recorded in your child's reading diary. Each book your child reads will gain them half a point towards certificates and badges. Even if your child has not had time to read at home, please make sure you bring their book and diary in each day as this means we can read with them in school.
Maths: Children should be accessing Numbots 2-3 times a week to support their place value, addition and subtraction understanding. https://play.numbots.com/
Spellings: By the end of the year children should be able to spell the common exception words in the lists below. These are words that do not follow the phonetic spelling rules and must be learnt by sight. In school we call them tricky words or red words.
DT and Art Projects
At the end of every half term the children complete an Art or DT project working on their skills and knowledge.
We carefully choose themes which will help the children make progress in these areas and further develop their skills from previous years.
In Autumn 2 we looked at abstract art and learnt about the artist Paul Klee. We created our own versions of 'Cold City.' We focused on lines, block colours and shapes to create our art work and used chalk so we could smudge and blend to add detail.
In Spring 1 we carried out a DT project based around Jack and the Beanstalk. We created a contraption that would help Jack get the golden egg away from the giant. The children planned, designed and labelled their contraption before creating it. The children then evaluated their design and altered their plans to improve their contraption.
