Governors

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up". - Galatians 6:9

In 2016 we formed a new Local Governing Body as part of the transition to joining the West Somerset Academies Trust. The West Somerset Academies Trust comprises of one Board of Trustees. Each school has their own Local Governing Body. The governors act as a "critical friend" to the school, monitoring and overseeing the smooth running of the school and supporting and listening to staff and parents.

Governor Profiles

Vicky Browne - Chair

I have worked in Further and Higher Education for the past 28 years as both a teacher and in management as a Quality Assurance Manager.

My sons have both grown up and two of my Grandchildren have been pupils at Old Cleeve Church of England School before moving to Danesfield. I retired from full time education two years ago and was asked by a friend if I would like to be involved with the school. I readily agreed and have been a Governor since the late autumn term of 2017; I took over as Chair in January 2019 following the retirement of the previous Chair.

I consider it to be a privilege to be able to be a part of this successful and vibrant school and enjoy the responsibilities and challenges that being a Governor involves. I hope to see the school continue to develop as a valuable part of the local community and provide a stimulating and secure learning environment for all its pupils. Good teaching and learning are at the heart of the school which is supported and encouraged by the dedicated and excellent staff team and I am glad to be associated within this role and able to support where necessary.

Dan Perry - Head

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Old Cleeve First School, a school that has a strong ethos towards ensuring each of our children makes the most of their potential. I believe that a school forms an integral part of a community and it is fundamentally importance that we offer our children an irresistible curriculum that is broad, balanced and engaging.

This is my first headship and throughout my time as a Head, indeed as a teacher, I have worked to ensure that students in my care achieve their very best, both academically but also socially. I believe firmly that we are all learners and there is always room for improvement.Through adopting the twin approaches of growth mindset and mindfulness we at Old Cleeve put the child at the centre of their learning.

I am passionate about developing the whole child; the children are always my priority.  We have worked hard to ensure that there is a breadth of exciting opportunities for our children through embodying the Old Cleeve Way. My aim is that the children will leave Old Cleeve equipped and ready to move on to the next phase of their education whilst ensuring that the foundations have been laid to enable them to become successful members of society.-

Stephane Miller - Parent Governor

Both of my children are currently attending Old Cleeve School, and thoroughly enjoying it. One of the things that impresses me the most is that the pupils genuinely seem content, happy and well behaved. With all of the extra curricular clubs run by the staff in addition to their teaching workload, I am keen to try to help the school maintain this environment. With 20 years of experience as a software engineer, I currently monitor the school’s maths teaching and IT infrastructure.

Sophie Cobb - Parent Governor

I have worked in special schools for the past 15 years as a teacher then as an assistant head before leaving to have my son. From the first day my son started at Old Cleeve First School it has been a welcoming and supportive environment for him to develop and grow. The school has strong values and these underpin the approach used with the pupils, valuing them as individuals and providing high expectations. I feel very proud to be part of the school and to be able to help it continue to thrive. As part of my role as a governor I help to monitor SEN across the school.
