What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of children from low income families. Funding is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years. Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than 6 months, and children of service personnel.
Why has it been introduced?
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals and their peers, by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most. Whilst schools are free to spend the pupil premium as they see fit, we are required to publish online information about how we have used the premium.
How do we meet all the needs of all pupils at Old Cleeve?
It is important that the ethos and values of the school are centred upon outstanding teaching and progress for all. At Old Cleeve we aim to do this by:
Ensuring that ‘Outstanding’ teaching and learning meets the needs of all pupils.
Ensuring the progress of all pupils is rigorously monitored and reviewed as part of the school’s assessment cycle.
Ensuring that appropriate provision is in place for all pupils who are not making expected progress or who are identified with pastoral, emotional and social difficulties.
Recognising that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged, or that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals.
Allocating the funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being disadvantaged.
Linking staff appraisals and the school development plan to the achievement of identified underachieving groups of pupils.
Pupil Premium Allocation 2016/2017
The school received £38,120 as separate Pupil Premium Funding in 2016/17.
· To narrow the gap between identified vulnerable children and the rest of the schools cohorts.
· To ensure that teaching and provision in the classrooms is of an outstanding quality.
· To ensure that rigorous systems are in place so that teachers, and SLT are able to monitor and review attainment and progress in line with the new national curriculum.
· Ensure that all pupils are identified and targeted early to support and make sure they make accelerated progress
· To ensure that nurture provision is in place for our most vulnerable children so that social and emotional needs are met early in a child’s development.
